Every Thursday at 1 PM on the corner of Fulton Street and Nostrand Ave, people of all backgrounds set up tables in front of a closed deli. Someone starts blasting music from the loud speakers. Heads line up behind each other going down a quarter of the block. Fresh homemade food invades the noses of the people passing by. Murmurs turn into conversations, conversations into shouts of joy and gratitude.
We The People is one of the many mutual aids in New York City. They are mainly in Bed-Stuy, but are now collaborating with Bluestockings in the Lower East Side once a month. Many of us cannot make it to a majority of the days that We The People is in Bed-Stuy because it’s during school, but during the days we have off, join me there! We can also now go after school when they are at BlueStockings. There is always warm food and radical love. Even in the rain, even when hands become numb in the cold, even in the burning sun, even when there is conflict with cops. I can’t wait to see you there! -Hindani Patel
